One drizzly sunday afternoon while in Yogyakarta I decided to take a drive down Jalan Parangtritis. The straight, flat road leads to the famed Parangtritis beach, where lovers and locals go on the weekends. While I had spent much time in the city I had never made the hour long trip to the beach, for one reason or another. I wasn't planning on going all the way, just driving and enjoying the quieter road, the cool air. "Just a little further" I kept saying to myself, until it was too late to turn around. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it definitely wasn't what I found - a deserted beachside town that could accommodate thousands, yet I was one of only a handful of people there. I guess the cloud had kept everyone away.
